about my church

University Place Christian Church (UniPlace) practices radical hospitality every day of the week.  As a people of the table (we practice communion weekly) we believe in the all-inclusive embrace of Jesus Christ.  Our worship is traditional and reverent, with amazing musical leadership every Sunday. At the same time it is engaging and hospitable. Everyone is welcome to the table and into the full life of the church regardless of gender, financial status, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, past mistakes or current life challenges. As a member church of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) we are part of the mainline tradition of protestant Christianity which believes Christ calls us to work for social justice. Through our hospitality ministry we welcome the economically disadvantage and homeless of Champaign Urbana as friends and neighbors throughout the week.  We host a weekly dinner open to everyone in the community to encourage the formation of relationships across social boundaries. Our building also hosts the DREAAM program, which addresses the needs of young men, especially boys of color, for educational enrichment and healthy development. We participate in advocacy work and educational endeavors to grow in our own awareness of current social issues as well as remaining engaged in daily compassionate care among those who have been pushed to the margins.
