about my church

University Place Christian Church (UniPlace) practices radical hospitality every day of the week.  As a people of the table (we practice communion weekly) we believe in the all-inclusive embrace of Jesus Christ.  Our worship is traditional and reverent, with amazing musical leadership every Sunday. At the same time it is engaging and hospitable. Everyone is welcome to the table and into the full life of the church regardless of gender, financial status, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, past mistakes or current life challenges. As a member church of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) we are part of the mainline tradition of protestant Christianity which believes Christ calls us to work for social justice. Through our hospitality ministry we welcome the homeless of Champaign Urbana as friends and many worship with us as members of our congregation.  We host a weekly dinner open to everyone in the community to encourage the formation of relationships across social boundaries. We participate in advocacy work and educational endeavors concerning social issues as well as daily compassionate care among those who have been pushed to the margins.
